Have you heard of the new Netflix movie, Enola Holmes? The first time I watched the trailer has already caught my attention to put this movie on my future mandatory-to-watch list.
The leading character, Enola Holmes is admirable for her bright, carefree character, as she looks into the camera and approaching the audiences - which somehow has made us feel connected and always looking forward to the whole story.
WHO IS ENOLA HOLMES?
Enola Holmes is a sixteen-year-old little sister of an outstanding fictional private detective, Sherlock Holmes, who is twenty-years from her age. In this movie, Millie Bobby Brown has done a great part of portraying the spry demeanor, Enola Holmes.
She grew up without her two big brothers (Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes) by her side and suddenly they returned home to check on her after their mother, who supposed to take care of Enola has gone missing.
However, I've read somewhere that this third Holmes is not a character in the original series of Sherlock Holmes - 56 short stories and four novels written by Arthur Conan Doyle but it is entirely the brainchild of Nancy Springer, who started the publishing of Enola Holmes novels in 2006.
Sherlock Holmes was originally to have only one sibling, which is his older brother Mycroft, the snootiest, scheming Holmes ever.
NETFLIX SYNOPSIS
While searching for her missing mother, intrepid teen Enola Holmes uses her sleuthing skills to outsmart big brother Sherlock and help a runaway Lord.
ENOLA HOLMES (FILM)
Enola Holmes is a 2020 American mystery film based on the book series written by Nancy Springer. The film, which focuses on the story of a teenage sister of an already-famous detective Sherlock Holmes, was directed by Harry Bradbeer and written by Jack Thorne. Enola Holmes was released on September 23, 2020, by Netflix.
In this film, Enola's mother has prepared her everything she needs to know since she was a little and turned her into a brave, strong girl. On the day of her 16th birthday, she awakened to find her mother missing.
She heads to the train station to pick up her brothers who she hasn't seen in a while. Her brothers seem to be shocked when they met her as they thought about how she isn't a real woman yet. As the reason for them returning home after a while is because their mother went missing, Sherlock was assigned to focus on their mother's case and Mycroft put Enola as his ward.
Mycroft decided to invite a woman named Harrison to straighten her up and planning to send her to a boarding school to turn her into a polite young lady. Enola rebelled and ran away from her brothers just like her mother did. And the journey of her finding her mother (or to be exact, finding her true self) begins.
MY PERSONAL REVIEWS
As a person who never followed any of the Sherlock Holmes series before (I will soon haha), this movie is quite exciting as we're brought to observe a young teen girl's adventure towards finding her missing mother with unsolved puzzles while unraveling the mystery chase of Viscount Tewksbury, the Marquess of Basilwether.
The gorgeous performance of Enola by Millie Bobby Brown has done a huge benefit in describing the true character of Enola, a lively, intelligent, and bright girl. I've got so many things to praise Brown's performance. Plus, she's paired with great supporting casts to work with.
Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes is the second oldest of the Holmes siblings. A private detective who actually in deep care of his little sister, becomes more open to Enola's point of view over time, unlike his brother, Mycroft, who greatly disapproves of his mother's way of raising Enola.
Sam Claflin as Mycroft Holmes, the eldest of the Holmes siblings and the legal guardian of Enola is by far the smartest of the three siblings with unmatched deductive abilities. He is determined for Enola to finish her education properly and become a proper lady of Victorian society.
Ultimately, I have been interested in Helena Bonham Carter for quite some time since she starred as Bellatrix in Harry Potter series. Basically, watching her playing a role in this movie is one of the reasons why I am very excited to watch this movie in the first place and the outcomes are not disappointing! She played a role as Enola's mother, Eudoria Holmes, and raises her to pursue her own path rather than that laid out for her by others.
Overall, this movie is worth watching! My personal rate: 9/10
